Andrés Torbado: background
Andrés has 20 years of marketing and sales experience, which includes homecare, personal care and foods with Unilever and Colgate as well as extensive experience in publishing (online and offline) and telecoms (Internet Service Provider).
His specialisms include the impact of internet on social groups, non-linear consumption of content, the process of content creation, always-on marketing, the effective use of data, mobile, geo targeting, new payment, couponing, content delivery methods, and commerce.
Before moving to our Singapore office, he led Unilever’s Global ecommerce practice for the Foods division to evangelize regional and local teams about the potential of ecommerce. In this role he led the development of tools, templates and best practises to dramatically increase the turnover of the most rapidly increasing channel. While at Unilever in London, Andrés also worked on digital content strategy and was a client of the Digital Strategy team.
Before living in the UK, Andrés lived in Spain where he helped launch one of the first ISPs and portals, as well as deploying the largest network of media assets in Spanish. This includes brands of the calibre of elpais.com, the largest global newspaper in Spanish, cadenaser.com the leading radio network in Spain and plus.es, the leading pay tv network in Spain.
Andrés has led several book publishing companies, launched several ecommerce projects such as www.bottegaverde.es, taught emarketing in postgraduate programmes for journalists, and been an investor (nutraceutical foods). He founded a travel magazine and launched the first mobile role playing game in Spanish (Tomb Raider on mobile). In his spare time he is completing a PhD.
Andrés is originally from Spain and has worked in the US and London, and now lives in Singapore with his wife and two children. While not working on digital strategies, Andrés enjoys time with his family travelling around Asia, motorcycling, photography and scuba diving. He’s still “seriously considering” taking up running, but somehow seems to skip that New Year’s Resolution each time it comes round.
