Evolution of online advertising: the EU’s role in managing challenges and opportunities

Wednesday, 27 June 2007

Brussels: Renaissance Hotel, Rue de Parnasse

Getting the right balance in regulation and self-regulation of internet advertising and content is a tough challenge because the regulatory models the European Commission use were designed for the classic media. The Audio-Visual Services Directive (formerly 'Television Without Frontiers') is creating a new opportunity for potential self-regulation, but the media and advertising industries across Europe's members states need to rise quickly to the challenge. Danny Meadows-Klue debates some of these issues with Cornelia Kutterer (Senior Legal Advisor, BEUC), representative from the European Commission (DG Media and Information Society), in an industry event organised by MEP Ignasi Guardans Cambó.
