13/03/2013

Britain’s most influential bloggers, who are shaping the nation’s behaviour from what we eat to how we vote, have been revealed.

The Bloggers Running Britain Survey of 2013 includes a Geordie football writer with over two million worldwide followers, a debunker of bogus science, a movie blogger who also monitors Hugh Grant’s undulating career, and a commentator on alternative weddings.

Blogging portal www.BloggingEdge.com surveyed 20 major sectors – from personal finance to education – looking for the writers who are really pulling the strings in their fields.

None of the bloggers chosen by Blogging Edge are household names but they are still massive voices among their followers, claims Blogging Edge editor Sarah Assenti.

She explains: “Bloggers exert huge influence, from what shops we visit on the High Street to what we put in the oven of an evening. They are now among the most important influencers in Britain. They are enthusiasts reaching other enthusiasts, so what they do and say has enormous impact.

“This is why you see so much advertising on their blogs. The big brands know who is really making waves in each sector.

“Our list focuses of blogs run by real people, mostly with just one writer, rather than blogs set up by major brands which are “ghosted” by large teams of contributors.

“The aim was to find the bloggers who are really pulling the strings in their fields, and having a lot of clout with other major influencers like journalists and marketing agencies.

“It is so easy for a large brand to throw money at promoting a blog and get masses of traffic, but which is actually so focused on puffing their products that no one really takes any notice. The independent blogger is more neutral, so their opinions are more respected and influential in affecting people’s thoughts and behaviour.”
