Top ad execs blast Microsoft for 'Do Not Track' defaults in IE 10

In an open letter, an influential US-based lobbying group for the advertising industry has criticised Microsoft's decision to enable Do Not Track as the default setting in Internet Explorer 10. The Association of National Advertisers wrote a letter to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, saying the "do not track" default setting would "undercut the effectiveness of our members’ advertising..." and ultimately "harm consumers, hurt competition, and undermine American innovation and leadership in the Internet economy."

Foursquare teams with American Express to offer ‘voucher-free’ offers in UK

Location-based social network Foursquare has teamed up with American Express to launch a range of voucher-free offers in the UK, following a similar campaign in the US last year. Foursquare co-founder Dennis Crowley said he believes the new service will help the location-based social network reach the same popularity in the UK as it has in the US within “another year or so”.

Twitter and American Express debut self-service ad platform for small firms

Twitter has partnered with American Express to offer both customers early access to an online advertising platform for small businesses. Set to launch late March, the first 10,000 eligible businesses that register will receive $100 in free Twitter advertisements when using the platform. The move marks a further step in Twitter's plans to expand revenue from advertising including promoted Twitter messages and accounts.
