Top 10 UK retailers ‘failing to accommodate mobile shoppers’

The UK’s top ten retailers are falling short when it comes to providing usable mobile websites, with Argos, Amazon and Tesco performing the best, according to a new study. The research, from EPiServer, used a benchmark study to reveal the top 10 retailers got an average score of only 47% for mobile presence and performance.

Top 50 online retailers in the UK: Argos reclaims second place from Apple

Argos is the second most visited online retailer in the UK behind Amazon, reclaiming second place from Apple, according to new data. The research, from Experian Hitwise and IMRG, indicates that Electronics retailers Currys (ranked 15), Comet (30), and PC World (38) all rose up the Hot Shops list this quarter.

Top 50 online retailers in the UK

Clothing store Next was the highest riser amongst UK online retailers during July, according to the latest ‘Hot Shops List’ from Hitwise and IMRG. Travel websites bounced back this quarter with all of the major travel brands rising up the rankings since May 2011. One in five websites in the Hot Shops List this quarter came from the travel sector.

Having dropped out of the Top 50, cinema brands Odeon (ranked 37th) and Vue (44th) both returned to it this quarter. Cineworld also rose up the rankings in a strong three months for the movie industry.

Argos debuts online TV shopping channel

Argos has launched its own home shopping channel this week on Sky and online. The channel will act as a shop window for the retailer, showcasing more than a thousand products a week with in-depth demonstrations. It will broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and can also be viewed on the Argos website.

Top 50 online retailers in the UK

The London 2012 Ticket site has been the most popular new ecommerce site so far this year, while Tesco overtook Play to become the third most searched-for online retailer in the UK, according to new research from the IMRG and Experian Hitwise. The London 2012 Ticket site ranked 35 for May 2011 as UK internet users applied to see sporting events at next year's Olympic Games. Meanwhile, the fastest climbers year-on-year in the HOT 100 were National Express (up 23 places), Republic (+22), Bhs (+22), House of Fraser (+20), Boots (+18) and Sainsbury's (+17).

Argos web and mobile sales account for half of revenue

Online and mobile app-based sales at Argos, alongside orders through customers' TVs, have hit nearly half of the company's total revenue, delivering £1.9 billion in the last year. The news came as Home Retail Group, which includes that retailer as well as Homebase, announced major progress in its multi-channel retail strategy as part of annual results.
The group said it would "continue to develop an integrated shopping experience that encompasses the latest technology" for internet and mobile channels.

Top 10 most searched for brands of 2010: Facebook, YouTube and eBay top list

Facebook was the top online brand of 2010, followed by YouTube, eBay, Amazon and Argos, according to new data from Experian Hitwise. Twice a year, Experian Hitwise awards the 10 most popular websites according to the market share of visits a website receives relative to other websites in their industry. This year’s top 10 brands include a mixture of social networks, retailers, automotive and news and media sites.

Top toy stores: WHSmith, Play.com and Toy Master lose out in the Christmas crush

The UK’s major toy retailers must upgrade their online offering if they are to beat competitors to the Christmas rush, according to the 2010 Toy Retail Report compiled by eCommerce display experts Brandbank.

Amazon, Early Learning Centre and Argos are the three top performing toy retailers online, while WH Smiths and Toy Master bring up the bottom of the table, falling below the average standard of the expected online shopping experience.

Facebook becomes UK's most searched for brand

Searches to Facebook in the UK rocketed during the last quarter of 2008, putting the site in second place after Google.co.uk, writes Brand Republic. 1 in every 42 online searches included the term "Facebook" and the site received 52% more searches than YouTube. Overall, Facebook was included in 2.39% of all UK searches, followed by YouTube (1.57%), eBay (1.25%) and Bebo (0.96%). The BBC came in fifth with 0.86% and was the most searched for "offline" brand during the period.
Facebook launched a redesign of many of its features this month, including a new "Twitter-style" follow feature which allows users to track updates from celebrities and businesses. The firm is also set to increase the speed of updates and profile changes on the site.
