Twitter gets serious about branding as new bird logo takes flight

Twitter has introduced a strict set of instructions to go with its new stripped-down 'Twitterbird' logo. The website is getting rid of its cartoon-style bird and replacing it with a simplified, dark blue version of the famous image. A long list of rules lays out 'do's' and 'don'ts' for Twitter users, web designers, authors and advertisers has been drawn up by Twitter.

Salesforce to boost social media with $800m Buddy Media buy

Salesforce.com has made a $800m bid for Buddy Media, in amove that could create the first enterprise level platform to have a fully integrated social customer relationship management (sCRM) module. The news was first reported by All Things D, which cites unnamed sources as saying the two companies have agreed to terms of the sale, though the purchase is not yet final.

Top 5 display advertisers in Brazil

There has been an influx of online brand campaigns in Brazil, with 17 top national brand advertisers delivering more than 1 billion impressions in the quarter. The study, from comScore, looked at the display advertising market in Brazil. The findings indicate that 190.5 billion display ads were delivered to Brazil’s Internet population during the first quarter of 2012.

Online ad campaign ROI- Purchaser data campaigns ‘return nearly $3 for every $1 spent’

Consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands can experience a return of almost three dollars in incremental sales for every dollar spent in online advertising that has been precisely delivered using purchase-based information, according to new research. The study, from Nielsen Catalina Solutions (NCS) was based on the correlation between online advertising and offline purchase. The findings indicate a turning point for the digital medium as marketers seek to better leverage their advertising budgets across multiple channels.

For display ads, 'being seen matters more than being clicked'

Ad viewability and hover time are more strongly correlated with conversions (defined as purchases and requests for information) than clicks or total impressions, according to new research. The research, from ad technology firm Pretarget and comScore suggests that buyer conversion is more highly correlated with ad viewability and hover than with clicks or gross impressions.

Was General Motors getting Facebook marketing wrong? Ford thinks so

Last week, General Motors pulled all of its $10 ad budget from Facebook citing the ‘ineffectiveness of paid ads.’ But some analysts, and rival car-maker Ford, have been quick to jump to the social network’s defence, implying that GM wasn’t getting the most it could from the platform. The shock decision from GM came ahead of Facebook's historic $104bn IPO, and has caused jitters in the marketing community, with some analysts fearing that other big brands could follow suit. But this is apparently not the case if bigger rival Ford is anything to go by.

Google+ debuts webcam community with live ‘Hangouts On Air’

Google is launching its much-hyped 'Hangouts On Air' feature on its Google+ social network, offering users a webcam community that lets groups broadcast and share video live. The new platform lets users broadcast live video to anyone with a mobile phone, live from major events or even their own living rooms. Other services, such as Ustream or Qik, already have similar features that stream live video from a phone or computer. However, these services are not paired with YouTube like Google+.

Tumblr to sell ads to brands for first time

Tumblr is to introduce paid advertisements on its service for the first time, as the popular social media site looks to capitalise on the 40 million blogs on its platform. The decision comes despite Tumblr’s founder David Karp once saying that online ads "turn our stomachs". Under the new scheme, brands will be offered space within the site's "dashboard" from 2 May.
