Desperate Dan goes digital: UK’s oldest comic ‘The Dandy’ goes online only

The Dandy, the UK's oldest children's comic, will cease weekly print publication and go online only after its 75th anniversary edition in December, publisher DC Thomson has confirmed. The final printed issue of the UK's longest-running children's comic will be released on its 75th birthday in December. The Dandy, best known for cartoon characters Desperate Dan the cow-pie eating cowboy, Korky the Cat and Bananaman, is being pulled from shelves following a drop in circulation in recent years.

Ebooks overtake hardcovers in adult fiction

For the first time, sales of adult fiction e-books surpassed that of traditional hardcovers.
The annual survey by the Association of American Publishers and the Book Industry Study Group also found that sales of ebooks overall (that is, both fiction and non-fiction, as well as adult, young adult and children’s) doubled between 2010 and 2011.

Google ends 6-year legal battle over e-books

Google has finally struck a deal with publishing group SNE to allow the scanning and publishing of books online - ending a six-year legal spat. The dispute started in 2006 when Google first outlined plans to digitise snippets of Books for its search engine. After a dispute with SNE, a court ruled in 2009 that the search company was in breach of copyright infringement after it digitised a number of French books.
