Google revamps AdWords- targets by situation, not device

Google has revamped its hugely popular search advertising system AdWords with ‘Enhanced Campaigns’, letting advertisers target people by ‘situation’ rather than device. The changes will let advertisers manage bids for ads across a variety of device platforms as consumers increasingly turn to tablets and smartphones to access the Web. Google is hoping the changes will boost its mobile revenue, following a year-long decline in revenues for its cost-per-click payment model on AdWords.

Google debuts AdWords Express for UK small businesses

Google has made its AdWords Express available in the UK and Germany, as the internet giant targets small businesses with a simpler and faster way to advertise on its search ad network. The service, which was launched in the US in July, is designed for “local businesses looking for local customers. It's for business owners who want the benefits of a targeted online ad campaign without having to spend time managing it.”

Google AdWords phone numbers become clickable and trackable

Google has updated its paid search tool AdWords to make all advertiser’s mobile numbers clickable and trackable. Google has been offering a click-to-call feature for AdWords since January 2010. Previously, AdWords users who placed a phone number in their ad copy could only get a call if the searcher entered the number manually. Now, the phone numbers inside the creative are clickable by default.

Google debuts ‘AdWords Express’ for local businesses

Google has launched ‘AdWords Express’ in the US, an updated version of its paid search designed to get local businesses in the US up and running with online advertising in under five minutes. Google claims the new tool is more streamlined than its standard AdWords setup process.

Advertisers only need to put in basic business information to create their ad, then set which page they want it to point to. The AdWords Express algorithm will handle keywords, automatically figuring out which search queries to place ads.

Iran’s election protests, the shutdown of Napster and the 2008 US presidential campaign have been named amongst the top 10 Internet moments of the 2000s. The events were singled out by New York-based International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences which bestows the annual Webby Awards.
