iPads in the workplace? IT survey reveals key pitfalls

With the iPad 3 set to be unveiled this week, a new survey of IT managers looks into the key problems of integrating iPads and other consumer-centric devices into the workplace. The study, from computing provider Star, found that one in five IT professionals said that the consumerisation of IT has had the single most negative impact on their roles.

Microsoft unveils Vista successor Windows 7

Microsoft has officially launched Windows 7, the successor to Windows Vista. The new version of Microsoft’s market-leading web browser now supports multi-touch technology. "Windows 7 brings to consumers more choice and value than any previous Microsoft operating system," said Ashley Highfield UK Managing Director of Microsoft. "We've worked with partners and consumers alike to deliver an improved user experience with enhanced performance and functionality that promote ease and simplicity in everyday tasks," he continued. Early feedback from customers report that Windows runs faster and starts up and shuts down more quickly.

Browser battles: Firefox market share

Possibly one of the fastest downloads in history. Mozilla's new Firefox 3.1.11 browser clocked up a staggering 150m downloads in its first 24 hours, writes VNU. Apple's Safari is logging a more sedate 11m for Safari 4 (over the first four days).
