LBi and Digitas to merge after Publicis buy

US-based agency Digitas is merging with Dutch agency LBi, as parent company Publicis looks to consolidate its global digital marketing network.

Publicis buys ad agency LBi for €416m

Publicis has bought Dutch ad agency LBi International for €416m, as the French marketing giant continues on the acquisition trail to boost its digital advertising reach. The deal follows a spate of mergers and acquisitions amongst agencies as larger groups buy up the few remaining faster growing digitally-focused smaller shops. Back in June, Martin Sorrell's advertising giant WPP bought digital agency AKQA, while in July, Japanese ad giant Dentsu agreed to buy marketing group Aegis.

LBi buys social media agency Mr Youth for $50m

London-based digital marketing agency LBi has bought US social media marketing agency Mr Youth for approximately $40- $50m. The deal will see LBi boost its existing social media offerings, including word-of-mouth, student marketing and consumer participation generation tools. Founded in 2002 by Matt Britton, New York-based Mr Youth helps brands run social media campaigns, and its clients have Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble and Microsoft. LBi's clients include Johnson & Johnson, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Sony Ericsson.

Only 20% of royal wedding traffic ‘comes from UK’

William and Kate may be a trending topic on Twitter, but only 20% of traffic is coming from the UK, with the bulk - a massive 64% - coming from North America, according to social media research carried out by marketing and technology agency LBi.

Prince William is also missing out in the popularity stakes to his fiancée Kate. According to LBi's research, Williams’ online popularity is almost 10% lower than Kate’s. He has had 54,000 mentions on blogs while Kate has had 59,000 and in forums she has had 11,000 mentions compared to William's 7,000.

Bigmouthmedia merges with LBi

Search engine marketing firm Bigmouthmedia is to merge with marketing agency LBi International, to create the largest marketing and technology agency in Europe. The deal was made through Bigmouthmedia’s holding company Obtineo, a combination of Bigmouthmedia and EU40m of new capital which will expand the combined entity.

The merger will combine LBi’s digital media, marketing, communications, design, brand and technology services with Obtineo’s SEO marketing to meet customer demands within on agency.
