11% of Britons ‘never make a call on their mobile’

More than one in ten UK mobile owners never make calls using their mobiles, instead opting to text and receive calls only, according to new research. The multi-country study released today by Lightspeed Research , shows the increasingly prominent role mobile phones are taking in modern life. Of the four countries surveyed (the UK, France, Germany and the US) it was Americans (49%) and Britons (30%) who were most likely to agree that their mobile phone was now an essential part of their daily life and they'd be lost without it. Almost half of people in Britain (46%) stated they carried their phones with them most of the time - with the 55-64 year olds most likely to do so.

Consumers shun high street for internet deals

New research from New Media Age and Lightspeed Research has found that 36% of British shoppers plan to shop more online and less in stores during the coming year. 89% of those polled believe that prices are lower online with 68% of shoppers also thinking that online shopping is cheaper than a trip to the high street when other costs such as petrol, parking and travel are taken into account. Overall, shoppers thought online was better for range of products (by 81%), price (89%), ease of finding items (84%), convenience (78%) and price comparison (95%). Traditional retail however was preferred for customer service (70%) and lack of waiting time (70%). New Media Age hypothesised that the coming year could see some traditional retailers closing their bricks and mortar stores to become online-only businesses.
