Facebook debuts recruitment app with 1.7 million jobs

Facebook has launched a jobs board in partnership with the Social Jobs Partnership, letting recruiters to post job listings directly on Facebook. The Social Jobs Partnership app has gone live in nthe US, and brings together the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) along with the US Department of Labor, the National Association of State Workforce Agencies, DirectEmployers Association and Facebook.

LinkedIn ranks top 100 in-demand employers (infographic)

LinkedIn adds Twitter-style ‘follow’ tool to boost users

LinkedIn will now let its users ‘follow’ and receive updates from people outside their personal contact list, as the business-based social network looks to boost user engagement on the site. The new feature mimics other popular social networks such as Twitter and Facebook where users can check for updates from leaders, celebrities and others with large numbers of followers. Until now, LinkedIn's 175 million-members could only share information with their immediate circle of contacts on the service.

LinkedIn has added "social gestures" such as "like," "comment" and "share" as the business-based social network looks tp compete with Facebook and Google+. The new home page, which will be rolled out to all members over the next few weeks, places the company logo and several quick links at the top in a black and gray bar across the top - a mix of what users see on Facebook and Google+. The new LinkedIn home page also has a less cluttered design with more emphasis on photos.

LinkedIn buys SlideShare for £74m

LinkedIn has bought online presentation tool SlideShare for £74m as the business-based social network looks to improve engagement and features on its site. SlideShare lets users upload presentations publicly or privately, which can be embedded on blogs, websites, company intranets and shared across Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Google+ debuts brand pages

Google has updated its social network Google+ with a new tool letting businesses and brands create their own profile pages to interact with customers. The move is similar to services offered by rivals Facebook and Twitter, and also puts Google+ in competition with leading business social network LinkedIn. The free tool, called Google + Pages, has attracted a number of high profile brands at launch, including Burberry, Pepsi, Barcelona football club, Angry Birds, O2, Save the Children, Mumsnet and the Muppets.

The study, from Reppler & Lab42, found that only 5% don’t use social networking sites for screening prospective employees. Though LinkedIn is a professional social network during the hiring process only 48% use it to screen candidates. Facebook being most popular with 76% followed by Twitter 53%.

Global social media revenue 'to reach $10.3bn this year'

Worldwide social media revenue is to reach $10.3bn in 2011, up 41% on last year, with ads and games as the key drivers for growth, according to a new report. The study, from Gartner, predicts that worldwide social media revenue is forecast for consistent growth with 2012 revenue totaling $14.9 billion, and the market is projected to reach $29.1 billion in 2015. Advertising revenue is, and will remain, the largest contributor to overall social media revenue. Social media advertising revenue is forecast to total $5.5 billion in 2011, and grow to $8.2 billion in 2012.
