News sites including BBC, Mail Online, and Trinity Mirror are now getting much higher mobile audiences than on desktop, according to new research looking into the top 20 UK sites online.

Trinity Mirror takes on Groupon with £10m daily deals site ‘happli’

Trinity Mirror is expanding into the online daily deals sector, putting the publisher in competition with Groupon. The site, called "happli", lets registered users buy discounted goods. The web and mobile site will showcase a daily selection of deals.

Daily Mirror revamps site with personalised content and new ad formats

The Mirror Online website has been relaunched with a new focus on providing users with more personalised content to drive engagement. The newspaper’s content has been simplified and the key channels of news, sport, lifestyle and the 3am showbiz section have been streamlined to integrate better with the main Mirror site. New advertising features on the site include carousel and bellyband ad format.

Mail Online holds top online paper slot with 53.9m UK readers

The website of the Daily Mail remains the UK's most popular national newspaper website for the twelfth month in succession, attracting 53.9 million browsers in December, according to new figures. Data from the Audit Bureau of Circulations found the Mail Online drew an average of 3,044,961 daily browsers in December, up 60.32 per cent on the number of browsers in the same month the previous year.

This was also up 3.58 per cent up from the 2,939,799 daily browsers it drew in November. The Daily Mail & General Trust’s website has been the most popular national newspaper website since monthly web traffic figures provided by the ABC changed in January to emphasise daily browser averages. The previous system focused solely on total monthly unique users.

Mirror focuses on ‘audiences rather than impressions’ in online ad overhaul

Trinity Mirror Group is changing its existing advertising model on and through a partnership with Imagini. Trinity Mirror is moving from simply selling impressions to what it claims is a far more sophisticated system which will effectively allow them to 'sell audiences', using the online profiling specialists patented VisualDNA technology.

Imagini’s VisualDNA works by inviting internet users on a site to take part in a free online personality test via text links and display ads. The results are used to create highly detailed profiles with around 100 tags for each user based on their responses to questions revealing core demographic, location, lifestyle, attitudinal and motivational personality traits and specific brand preference data.
