TV networks increase stake in Hulu

Hulu’s media ownership partners are close to buying out one of their number. NBCUniversal, News Corp., The Walt Disney Company and members of the Hulu team are to purchase the stake owned by Providence Equity Partners at a price that values the company at $2 billion.

Super Bowl: 2.1 million watched online…but total web traffic dips 20%

Over 2.1 million people watched the Super Bowl final online this year, but total web traffic in the US fell by 20%, according to new data. The figures, from US cable network NBC, looked at web use, as the final was legally streamed online for the first time. The game was streamed on the NBCSports.com and NFL.com websites, and was also available to Verizon customers with access to NFL Mobile.

News Corp and NBC join forces to launch new video website

News Corporation and NBC Universal are to launch a new online video website, writes Brand Republic. The site will include thousands of hours of back catalogue TV programmes, films and clips available for free. The two firms have also signed distribution partnership agreements with AOL, Yahoo! and Microsoft. The service will be funded through advertising and Cisco, Intel, General Motors and Cadbury-Schweppes are all said to be lined up.
