Opera snaps up 2 mobile ad networks: Mobile Theory and 4th Screen Advertising join browser firm

Browser maker Opera Software has acquired Mobile Theory and 4th Screen Advertising in an effort to boost its push into the mobile advertising space. The Norwegian firm is hoping to drive more revenue from mobile traffic, and is reportedly paying a combined $10 million in cash up front for both companies, as well as an additional sum based on individual performance. This totals $64.5m for both companies if all targets are met.

Global adspend by medium: Internet to grow 16% by 2014

The internet will be the biggest contributor of new ad dollars to the global market, accounting for 52.9% of the growth in total expenditure until 2014, according to new research. The data, from ZenithOptimedia, found paid search will take the largest share of online adspend during that period, contributing 25.6%, followed by display at 22.6%, with classified at a much lower 4.7%.

Norway and Sweden get world’s first '4G' mobile broadband

Scandinavian operator TeliaSonera has become the first mobile network operator to launch commercial LTE mobile broadband services, offering mobile download speeds 10 times faster than standard 3G services.

The services went live in the centres of Oslo and Stockholm on Monday, offering theoretical maximum speeds of 100Mbps and real-world speeds of 20-80Mbps. Mobile users in Norway and Sweden will be able to buy a mobile dongle that supports the ‘4G’ network (the official IEEE definition of that term cites 100Mbps as a minimum speed.)
