Spotify plans browser-based music streaming

Apple planning iAd-funded music streaming service?

Apple is considering to expand its music service by licensing a custom radio servicing device, offering free music streams funded by iAds, according to a news report. The Wall Street Journal reports that the company is in talks with record labels to provide customized streaming music, in a move that would put Apple in deirect competiton with the likes of Pandora, Spotify and WE7.

Spotify takes on Pandora with online radio in US

Spotify is expanding its US services a year after the Swedish firm entered the market, developing an Internet radio service that would directly challenge Pandora Media. Citing "two people with knowledge of the situation," Bloomberg said the new service would launch before the end of the year and be funded by advertising.

Pandora 'making more ad revenues per hour than traditional radio stations'

US online radio station Pandora has revealed its advertising is now generating more revenue per 1,000 hours of airtime than traditional radio is doing right now.Pandora posted revenues of $67m for the second quarter; more than double 2010's figures. This comes from its desktop version, and its mobile service has more room for growth. Analysts have pointed out that its ratio of revenues per hour are higher than that of traditional radio stations.

Internet radio pioneer Pandora’s shares soar on stock float

Pandora Media saw its shares soar above expectations, as the US-based online radio firm floated on the New York Stock Exchange this week. On the first day of trading Wednesday, the California-based company leapt as much as 63 percent to $26 after its debut on the New York Stock Exchange, under the symbol P. Founded in 2000 by Tim Westergren under the name Savage Beast, Pandora makes 87% of its sales from ads that target users based on age, gender, home postal code and musical taste.
