UK advertising on the internet and mobiles increased 12.6% year compared to the same period last year, accounting for £2.59bn in the first half of 2012, according to the Internet Advertising Bureau. The UK trade body found that a ‘meteoric rise in mobile’ drove much of the growth. With 58 per cent of the UK population now said to own smartphones according to the IAB, mobile advertising has continued a "meteoric rise". It was said to be up 132% to £181.5m.

Mobile ad spend tops £203m: Brits becoming nation of ‘triple screeners’

Mobile advertising spend has grown a massive 157% year on year increase to £203m in UK, up from £83m in 2010 to £203m in 2011. US sees highest ever online ad revenues for Q1

Internet advertising revenues in the U.S. hit $7.bn for the first quarter of 2011, a 23% increase over the same period in 2010, according to new research. The findings, from the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), represent the highest-ever Q1 revenue level ever for the industry and a significant increase over last year’s first-quarter revenue level, which had been the highest on record to date.

1 in 4 ads are now on the Internet- IAB

A quarter of all advertising spent is now on the Internet, growing 12.8% in 2010 to reach a new milestone of £4,097m, according to the bi-annual advertising spend study from the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PwC. With total UK advertising spend in 2010 valued at £16.6 billion, this takes the internet’s market share to a record high of 25% (23% in 2009), meaning that £1 in every £4 invested by advertisers is spent online.

Search drives US online ad revenue up 17%

Online ad spend in the US continued to accelerate in the third quarter, as the market rebounds from a slowdown last year, according to new data. The Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers found that marketers spent $6.4 billion in online ads, up 17% year-on-year and the highest quarterly total ever.

Online ad spending has been gaining speed in the US this year, having grown 11.3% to $12.1 billion in the first quarter and on track to making 2010 the best year so far on record. Last year, economic uncertainty and troubles led marketers to cut down on online advertising and spending shrunk 3% to $22.7 billion.

Over 1000 UK media companies went bust in past 2 years

The overall number of entertainment & media (E&M) insolvencies has now reached record levels from the early days of the credit crunch, according to new research. Autumn 2009 marked a milestone of 1000 insolvencies in the UK entertainment and media sector since June 2007, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) business recovery analysis.

But publishing failures alone jumped nearly 25 percent this year (January to October inclusively) on 2008 despite a recovery for other sectors such as advertising. In fact publishing failures account for a third of all E&M insolvencies.

Global ad spend to reach $421bn in 2009

Global adspend is on course to reach $421bn (£255bn) during 2009 according to the latest figures from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), writes eMarketer. This represents a 12.1% fall on 2008 when global adspend totalled $479bn (£291bn), according to the firm. PwC expects all advertising sectors to suffer during the year other than video game advertising. However, the firm does predict better times for digital marketing in 2010: both internet advertising (including mobile) and video game advertising are forecast to see five-year compound annual growth of 7.7% and 13.8% respectively. Globally, PwC forecasts that total media spend will rise by 2012.

36% of all UK adspend to be online by 2013

PricewaterhouseCoopers's (PwC) latest Entertainment and Media Outlook report predicts that online advertising in the UK will take 36% of all adspend by 2013, writes Brand Republic. According to the firm, online ad expenditure grew 17.1% (£540m) year-on-year during 2008 to reach £3.35bn, giving it 19.2% of the UK ad market (from 15.5%). The report also predicts that the UK's total internet access market (including both wired and mobile) will grow at a compound rate of 7% between 2009 and 2013 to reach £8.84bn (from £6.32bn).
PwC expects the UK's entertainment and media market to decline until 2010 before growth resumes. Not all sectors will fully recover however: PwC forecasts that the only sectors which will be larger in 2013 than in 2008 are internet access, internet advertising, TV subscriptions and license fees, filmed entertainment and video games.

European online adspend grew 20% in 2008

The latest European online advertising study from IAB and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has revealed that online adspend grew 20% during 2008 to reach €12.9bn (£11bn), writes Brand Republic. The study examined the markets in 19 European countries. Although some mature markets showed less than 20% growth, only France and the Netherlands came in below 19% (with 18.5% and 9% respectively).
Online search advertising led the way with 26% growth, rising to €5.6bn (£4.8bn). Overall, search accounted for 43% of all European ad budgets in 2008 (from 41% in 2007). Classified adspend was up 17% on 2007 (to take 25% of all advertising), reaching €3.8bn (£3.25bn). Display advertising increased 17% to €3.3bn (£2.82bn) and email spend remained flat at €200m (£171m).
