Zoopla buys local web pioneer Upmystreet to boost location-based marketing

Online property portal Zoopla has bought, one of the original local information sites from the dotcom goldrush era, for an undisclosed sum. Launched in 1998, was one of the first property websites in the UK. Recent figures from independent website monitoring firm, Nielsen, show that in March attracted over 600,000 unique users.

Johnston Press is set to launch an online property platform on Thursday with UK property website Zoopla. The partnership will bring together Zoopla’s online property expertise with the sites of the publisher’s regional network of newspaper titles. Findaproperty and Zoopla merge to take on Rightmove

Daily Mail and General Trust is to planning to merge the online property firms and with property startup Zoopla. The move will provide a powerful competitor to Rightmove, which leads the Uk online property market. Under the proposed merger, A&N Media (the consumer arm of DMGT) will retain a 55% interest in the newly merged entity.

Rightmove launches ‘seller of the month’ Facebook competition

Rightmove have launched a major new Facebook contest, as the UK leading property website looks to encourage sales in the turbulent property market. The ‘Seller of the Month’ app allows vendors to put forward their property on Rightmove’s Facebook page and describe what’s great about the home they are selling. Facebook users can then review the list of entrants and vote for their favourite property.

Property search and information website has launched heatmaps which show the average current value of homes across the UK in a visual format. The new heatmaps can be found on all maps across the Zoopla website and may be viewed at varying zoom levels include down to individual postcodes. In addition to the new heatmaps, Zoopla has also added a variety of other local property information that provides an essential research tool for potential house hunters.

Connection now beats location? Rightmove lists broadband speed of all homes

UK property site Rightmove is set include broadband speeds as a searchable criteria on all of its properties, as internet connectivity becomes an increasingly vital part of modern life. Rightmove has struck a deal with BT to list the internet speeds of the one million homes listed on its website. The property site is planning to list broadband speed alongside standard information, such as the number of bedrooms and whether the property has a garage or garden.

Zoopla debuts augmented reality property app for Android

Propery site Zoopla has launched an augmented reality app for users of Android powered smartphones, letting users search for property listings on the move. The Zoopla Android app, much like its iPhone counterpart, features hundreds of thousands of property listings, over 16 million sold prices dating back to 1995 and free instant value estimates for every UK home.

Meanwhile Augmented Reality technology lets the user point their phone at any property using camera view to display any relevant information such as whether the property is for sale, how much it last sold for or what it is valued at today.

Rightmove lets users ‘draw-a-search’ to find properties

Property website Rightmove has introduced an innovative new search tool to its website. Draw-a-Search allows people to sketch out their own search shape on a Google Map and perform property searches on that specific area.

The tool works by connecting a series of points together to form a shape covering the exact area that the home-hunter would like to search in. These shapes can then be saved to receive property alerts when relevant homes in that area become available, and even be shared with others on Facebook and Twitter.

Google takes on Rightmove, enters UK property market

Google UK has expanded into the UK property market by adding additional property search functionality to Google Maps. The service is being run in partnership with a number of estate agents, alongside Zoopla and Trinity Mirror. Tools which allow for detailed search for property went live yesterday on Google Maps.

Google said that rather than competing with estate agents, it’s intention is to generate income from advertising which will be displayed around the property results pages. However, a notable absesnse from its list of partners is Rightmove, the current UK market leader in property portals and search.
