Google encrypts search: Will tracking be affected?

Google account holders will now have all their searches encrypted by default for extra security, the company has announced. The move comes over a year after Google made ‘SSL’ encryption the default setting for Gmail, and also introduced an encrypted search service. Search over SSL is currently available on web, images and all the search modes on Google Search, except for maps.

Video: MC Hammer Vs. Google? Rapper launches vertical search engine

Rapper and technology enthusiast MC Hammer has launched his own internet search engine, WireDoo, with the slogan, 'search once and see what's related.' The rapper, best known for his 80’s hit ‘You Can’t Touch This’, launched his search engine at this week's Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco. Although he seems an unlikely digital entrepreneur, Hammer has been involved in several hi-tech ventures in the past few years.

Yahoo switches to Bing search results in Europe

Yahoo! has migrated organic search results to Bing across Europe, as the two firms cement the landmark search alliance deal stuck two years ago. The move means searches on Yahoo! UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, will generate results powered by Microsoft’s search engine, Bing.

Paid search adverts, however, will remain as they currently are. The transition is one that’s already been made in America, including the US, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela. Australia and New Zealand Yahoo search results are also powered by Bing.

Top 10 holiday sites for search visibility: Brits seek ‘cheap holidays’ online

Thomson is the most visible holiday site on natural search in the Uk, while Icelooly has the most reach on paid search, according to new research. According to the latest quarterly research by independent search and social marketing firm, Greenlight, consumers in the UK looked to book their holidays well in advance of summer. Its latest quarterly report, ‘Holidays February 2011’ reveals 3.1 million holiday-related searches were conducted on Google in February compared to 1.2 million in the previous quarter.

CallCredit buys digital marketing firm Latitude

Callcredit Information Group has acquired digital marketing agency Latitude Digital Marketing. The acquisition will see Latitude’s digital experience combine with Callcredit’s consumer data and marketing insight to create and deliver targeted digital marketing solutions.

Formed in 2001, Latitude offers SEO, Pay-Per-Click online display advertising, social media optimisation and analytics. Latitude operates from offices in London and Cheshire, with a 95-strong team offering cross channel consultancy and execution with native speakers in 15 languages and managing campaigns in more than 150 countries for clients in gaming, retail, telecoms, insurance and travel.

Google debuts 'Instant' predictive search results

Google has launched 'Instant' search results, a new service that starts predicting results as soon as users begin typing. As internet users begin a word, Google’s homepage will move instantly to a page of results that is updated as each letter is typed.

Google, which currently answers 1 billion search queries per day, described the move as a “fundamental change” that will save the world’s internet users a combined 11 hours per second, or 111 years per day. The update has been trailed over the past two days with 'Google Doodles' on the company's homepage.

dotDigital buys SEO agency Netcallidus

The dotDigital Group has bought digital agency Netcallidus for an undisclosed sum.The Northamptonshire based digital marketing agency provides premium search engine marketing services to enterprise organisations throughout the UK.

Netcallidus will join dotDigital’s roster of digital marketing brands including dotMailer and will sit alongside the Group’s existing search engine optimisation brand, dotSEO. Founded in 2002 by Stuart Haining and joined in 2006 by Mark Furber, initially offered SEO services through a range of resellers and partners. Since 2006, the company has also been selling direct to enterprise brands.
