This chart shows the top 15 mobile apps and the percentage of mobile internet users that they reach. Google Maps reaches the most mobile internet users with 54%, equating to over 474 million users. Mobile only social networks Vine, Instagram and Facebook Messenger attract a large portion of mobile internet visitors, with 3%, 12% and 22% respectively.

This chart shows the growth of the top 15 mobile apps between Q1 and Q3 2013. twitter's social networking effort Vine has seen the biggest growth of 2013 with a remarkable 403%, but still only reaches 3% of mobile users, the smallest reach of the top 3 apps. Vine's main competitor Instagram saw 130% growth in 2013, but reaches 109m mobile users. If Vine continues to grow at this rate the gap should close.

Shazam strengthens TV services after $32m funding boost

Shazam buys first company: Synchronized Lyrics adds words to song

Mobile music discovery firm Shazam has made its first corporate acquisition with the purchase of synchronized lyric technology from Tunezee, a Silicon Valley-based company. As a part of the announcement, Shazam is immediately launching Shazam LyricPlay, a new feature in the Encore premium App that allows Shazamers to view lyrics synchronized in real-time with the music they are listening to, wherever they are.

Shazam and Syfy make ‘Being Human’ first Taggable TV series

Shazam has partnered with Syfy to launch the first, series-long ‘TV Tagging’ initiative with the cable channel’s new, original scripted series, Being Human.

An on-screen promotional campaign encourages viewers to download the Shazam application onto their mobile device and to watch Being Human every Monday night at 9PM ET/PT on Syfy.

The Shazam logo is embedded into the program so that users can tag the show. Viewers simply ‘touch to Shazam’ and hold their phone up to the TV to tag the specific episode.

Shazam and Spotify announce partnership

Music recognition service Shazam is to integrate Spotify across the full range of Shazam’s free and premium Apps for iPhone, iPod touch and Android. Shazam users will now be able to access Spotify directly through a new ‘Play in Spotify’ feature, which will take them directly to Spotify where they can immediately begin listening to the full track that they either tagged or discovered within Shazam from recommendations or the Shazam charts.
