Android claims 85% share of smartphones shipped in Q2

New research from Strategy Analytics has revealed that the Android OS accounted for 85% of the 295m smartphones shipped worldwide during Q2. In contrast Apple, Windows Phone and BlackBerry all saw their market share decline, as Android performed well on both low-cost and high-end devices across the World.

Apple App Store takes 12% of mobile application market

Strategy Analytics have revealed that Apple's App Store captured a 12% volume share of the mobile application market during 2008, writes However the report also showed that the App Store's commercial value is significantly lower thanks to increased competition between developers which has pushed down application prices.
Mobile phone apps have become an increasingly lucrative market with Google, Nokia, RIM and Microsoft all now vying to emulate Apple's success with their own stores.

Global mobile adspend to reach $2.4bn in 2009

The latest Wireless Trends Outlook from Strategy Analytics predicts that global mobile adspend will reach $2.4bn in 2009 up from $1bn this year, writes Cellular-news. The firm predicts that the increased use of Adobe's Flash and the launch of Nokia's "Comes with Music" service will both help to further stimulate the mobile advertising sector.
Similar research from eMarketer goes much further in accounting for the growing economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China. eMarketer expects total mobile advertising expenses (including creative, IT and other related spending costs) to reach $6.44bn in 2009, rising to $19.15bn in 2012.

Global mobile phone sales rise 11%

258m mobile phones we were shipped worldwide in Q2 according to Strategy Analytics, writes ENN. The figure represents an 11% year-on-year increase and a 4% increase on Q1 2007 (247m units shipped). Total shipments for the first half of 2007 exceeded half a billion units for the first time, as demand remained particularly strong in emerging markets. Strategy Analytics predict that 283m mobiles will be sold during Q3. A similar study from IDC calculates global Q2 shipments at 272.7m, up 16.5% year-on-year.
