BBC’s GoodFood website will start linking ingredients directly to Tesco, in a deal inked between the broadcaster’s commercial worldwide arm and the supermarket giant. The site features more than 5,000 recipes, and the deal will see ingredients clicked automatically added to a Tesco shopping basket without leaving the BBC GoodFood.com site.

Apprentice star debuts ‘Whisk’ recipe shopping app

Nick Holzherr, a runner-up from last year’s Apprentice final has launched an online food app, based on his losing business plan from the BBC show. The app, called Whisk, combines online shopping with home cooking. It scans recipes, creates a shopping list and then adds the ingredients to the user’s favourite online supermarket account. The app works on both Apple and Android’s app stores.

Top 50 online retailers in the UK- Olympics boosts travel sites

Amazon remained top of the UK online shops during August, followed by Apple and Argos, while the Olympics boosted visits to travel sites, according to new research. The findings, from the IMRG-Experian Hitwise Hot Shops List, indicate that London 2012 Tickets was the fastest moving retailer this quarter as consumers flocked online for precious Olympics tickets. On the Beach entered the top 50 for the first time this quarter, joining 10 other travel brands who all rose in the rankings of the Hot Shops List with the exception of easyJet, which retained its previous position.

Instagram's $1bn price tag makes sense for Facebook's 'buy' strategy because it blocked Twitter, Google, Apple or MSN from leaping ahead.

In cloud storage, the trend seems to be to 'build' your own: April saw Google unveil a cloud storage service to undercut Dropbox, SkyDrive and iCloud. Our money is on Dropbox getting bought soon, as late entrants realise 'buy' will be the only option left.

Top 20 Facebook brands- Topshop, Tesco and Ann Summers on the rise

Topshop remains the top UK brand on both Facebook and Twitter, in terms of the number of followers, according to new research. The study measures how brands are using the top social networks and the subsequent effects on their follower base. Topshop continued to reign at the top of the social media leagues having reclaimed the Twitter top spot from ASOS and breaking through the 2 million ‘likes’ barrier with their Facebook page.

Tesco shuts second hand car site after just one year

Tesco has axed its second-hand car sales website after just a year - because it did not have enough cars to list on the website. The shutdown was announced on the Tescocars.com website with the words, “Following a review of the business model we and Carsite, our partner, have decided that we cannot offer customers a satisfactory range of vehicles and as a result, have decided it is right to close the business.”

Top 10 UK retailers ‘failing to accommodate mobile shoppers’

The UK’s top ten retailers are falling short when it comes to providing usable mobile websites, with Argos, Amazon and Tesco performing the best, according to a new study.
