Top 10 countries for blog use: Japan tops list

4 in 5 Japanese web users visited a blog site during June, according to new data. The study, from comScore, found that FC2 inc, Livedoor, Blog and Ameblo.jp ranked as the most popular blog destinations for the Japanese audience. The report found that in June 2011 more than 80 percent of the entire online population in Japan visited a blog site, as the number of visitors to the category rose 7 percent from the previous year.

Top 18 European countries by web use

Germany still leads the way in terms of number of web users in Europe, but the Netherlands and the UK spend most time online, according to new data. comScore has released an overview of Internet usage in Europe, showing 368.6 million unique visitors went online in June 2011 for an average of 26.1 hours per person. This release highlights Internet usage in 49 European markets aggregated under the European region and provides individual reporting on 18 markets.

In February 2011, 89% of the Turkish online population spent an average of 14.8 hours viewing online videos. Males aged 15-24 viewed an average of 20.8 hours of online video, while females in this age group viewed just 12 hours, (measured in average number of hours).

Germany leads Europe in online video viewing

Internet users in Germany, Turkey, Spain and the UK watch an average of at least 30 minutes a day of online video, according to new research. The study, from comScore, shows that Germany leads in online video viewing across several reporting metrics for the European countries currently reported in comScore Video Metrix (France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain, Turkey and UK).

Hackers take down Turkish Government website

A group of hackers known as Anonymous has taken responsibility for disabling a Turkish government website in a protest against recently introduced Internet filters that many consider to be censorship. The online anarchist group has threatened to attack Turkish agencies that impose censorship, siding with Turkish Internet users against a new filtering system that the government plans to roll out this summer.

Across Europe, 365.3 million unique visitors went online in April 2011 for an average of 24.2 hours per person, according to new research from comScore. The study found that Germany and Russia have the most web users, but British, Turkish and Dutch audiences are the most prolific.

Top 10 social network audiences worldwide

Russians are the heaviest social networkers worldwide in terms of time spent per user, while Brits hold the fourth spot, according to a new study. The data, from comScore, found that in August 2010, 34.5 million Russian internet users (74.5 percent of the online population) visited at least one social networking site.

With an average of 9.8 hours per visitor during the month, Russians spent more than double the worldwide average of 4.5 hours per visitors on social networks, ranking it #1 among all countries in social networking engagement.
