Twitter shuts down TweetDeck mobile and Facebook apps

In a surprise move, Twitter has shut down the mobile apps of its TweetDeck social media management tool, in a bid to focus on its web versions.

TweetDeck ‘sent closure letter’… but will app continue under Twitter?

UK-based social media app TweetDeck has been sent a letter from the UK companies registrar, warning that the company will be struck off in three months and forcibly dissolved unless it files accounts.

TweetDeck ‘risks closure’ after failing to submit accounts

TweetDeck, the social media management tool owned by Twitter, risks being ‘dissolved or struck-off the register’ after failing to file its accounts for the second time, according to reports. Sky News reports that the UK company missed the deadline in September and then again at the end of December and was fined £375 for doing so in both instances. If TweetDeck does not submit files soon it may have to pay a £1,500 penalty and face being taken to court.

Twitter angers developers with API clampdown

Twitter has sparked anger from developers after restricting creation of third-party applications on its social network. The move could have dire implications for the firm’s hugely popular API platform, which has spawned a number of widely used social media applications such as TweetDeck, Hootsuite and Twitpic.

Twitter buys Tweetdeck after bidding war- report

Twitter has reportedly purchased UK-based social media app Tweetdeck for $40m, as the micro-blogging site looks to clamp down on thrid party apps. CNN cites unnamed sources that the deal was signed on Monday.

Back in February it was reported that UberMedia, which owns other Twitter apps, might buy Tweetdeck, but the deal was never finalised. At the same time Twitter denied access to UberMedia apps UberTwitter and twidroyd, saying that there had been policy violations.

UK social media app TweetDeck 'sold for $30m'

TweetDeck is to be bought for $30m (£19m) by Silicon Valley firm UberMedia, according to a news report. The Financial Times said the takeover will be finalised next month. UberMedia, which has already bought other Twitter tools and services, such as UberTwitter and EchoFon.

East London-based Tweet Deck launched in 2008, and has since generated more than 20 million downloads. The company’s free software updates and manages social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
