Facebook links with WordPress to boost content sharing

Facebook has expanded its integration with WordPress, as the firm looks to tap into the publishing platform’s audience of 600 million monthly viewers to boost sharing on its own social network.
The plugin allows users of both platforms to cross-post their WordPress content to their timeline profiles and pages they manage, as well as to add the names of pages or friends to the posts.

WordPress takes on Google AdSense with WordAds

WordPress has launched a contextual ad scheme, as the popular publishing platform looks to take on Google’s AdSense. The firm has teamed up with Federated Media Publishing to create WordAds, which lets bloggers earn money through advertising on their blogs. “We’ve resisted advertising so far because most of it we had seen wasn’t terribly tasteful, and it seemed like Google’s AdSense was the state-of-the-art, which was sad,” Jon Burke wrote on the WordPress.com blog. “You pour a lot of time and effort into your blog and you deserve better than AdSense.”

Top US social media sites: Tumblr gaining ground

Facebook remains the dominant social network, but micro-blogging site Tumblr and others are enjoying traction, according to new research. The new new social media consumption study from Nielsen indicates that social network usage accounts for 25 percent of U.S. Web users' time spent online. Facebook leads the way at more than 53 billion total minutes spent online during May.
