IVCA Awards 2008With e-learning and blended learning forming a fundamental building block in 21st Century training and development, Digital's CEO, Danny Meadows-Klue was delighted to announce this year's award for excellence. Congratulations go to Young Foresight for their work with the National Skills Academy Nuclear group to create such an excellent learning tool to teach 14-16 year-olds about electrical energy, production and distribution. The film is being used as part of Key Stage 4 in the UK national curriculum and was an outstanding entry in this year's awards. Digital's corporate social responsibility programme supports the goals of sustainability in energy and population. IVCA Awards Winners 2008

Grand Prix Winner

Winner: The Grim Reaper
Produced by: The Edge Picture Company
Client: COI / British Army

Aims and Objectives:
Army personnel are 2.5 times more likely to die in a Road Traffic Accident than the general population affecting soldiers, their families, and morale. This increases within 3 months of the end of an operational tour. The aim is to get an audience used to taking risks, to think again and change their behaviour.

Intended Audience:
All army personnel returning from deployment or going home on leave (mostly from Iraq or Afghanistan). Key targets: young men between the ages of 18-35,typically the lower ranks. The film is shown during ‘decompression’ in Cyprus, and just before they board.

Judges’ Citation:
This year’s Grand Prix winner has numerous outstanding qualities - strong direction and editing, scenes of impact balanced by touches of humour and valuable insights into the psychology of its target audience. But above all it had a clear and powerful concept that brought all these elements together. Script, style and technique meshed seamlessly to create a memorable and effective piece of work.

Industry Award For Effective Communication

Gold Winner: Steamy Windows
Produced by: ST16
Client: North Lancashire Primary Care Trust

Aims & Objectives:
To reduce drink drive related deaths in Lancashire’s young male drivers, to make them think about loss of life as a consequence of drink driving, to ensure they were compelled to watch and subsequently pass it on to friends and also to ensure they did not instantly switch-off to just ‘another road safety communication’.

Intended Audience:
Lancashire’s young drivers, 17-25 predominantly male. This ‘viral’ was posted on YouTube and Kontraband.com, backed by a seeding strategy, including posing as users posting the link on Fast Car Forums, manipulating key words searched for by YouTube users and ensuring an enticing ‘thumbnail’ on YouTube search results page.

Judges’ Citation:
This attention grabbing film combined excellent production values and a well executed strategy, using an innovative delivery platform, to cleverly target its audience.
