MasterCard is launching its Masters of Code competition with a London hackathon on November 14th and 15th at the Impact Hub in Westminster.

Sponsored and hosted by MasterCard and organised by AngelHack, the Masters of Code competition is a series of weekend-long hackathons that have brought together the world’s top developers, designers and entrepreneurs to take on MasterCard’s APIs.
Focused on smarter cities, ‘Masters of Code’ will bring together London’s best developers and entrepreneurs for a chance at the $100,000 prize
The theme of the event is Connected Cities, and participants will be asked to create solutions to everyday problems that Londoners endure, encouraging more seamless navigation of the city.
London is the last of 12 global hackathons with 3,000 of the world’s best developers battling for USD 100,000 worth of prize money if they can come up with an innovation that uses MasterCard’s payments platform and benefits city dwellers. As well as MasterCard opening up its technology for the event, Transport for London will be bringing its suite of open data APIs and advice and guidance to the hackathon.
The winners of the London event will compete in a Silicon Valley grand final for the prize money, against the victors from the other events held in cities including Sydney, New York and Singapore.
Using these APIs, developers will have access to unsurpassed assets, data and products from MasterCard focused on powering commerce on a global scale. The participating teams will compete to create innovative prototypes that demonstrate artful coding and design skills while also articulating clear business use cases – all focused on driving the next generation of commerce applications.
The London event will feature an esteemed panel of judges who will decide the winning team based on their innovation’s impact, design, creativity, simplicity and usage of MasterCard’s APIs.
Scott Abrahams, Group Head of Acceptance and Emerging Payments at MasterCard UK & Ireland said: “We are looking for the best coders in London and beyond. This is their chance to compete against their peers from other cities around the world with a grand final in Silicon Valley. We have the fintech centre of the world on our doorstep, so we want to open up our technology for a simple reason – to enable any developer to use our platforms to build the next big thing.”
