Today Amazon celebrates its 20th birthday with a huge day of sales, and online shoppers in rural Britain will be better placed to bag the bargains than those in major cities due to ultrafast broadband speeds up to 40 times the UK average, according to new research.

The study, from Gigaclear indicates that 91% of people living in rural areas with internet connection are shopping online regularly, a figure higher than those living in other areas.
‘Amazon Prime Day’ is expected to go down in history as being bigger than ‘Black Friday’, with discounted products added every ten minutes, including electronics, toys and films. Last year, UK shoppers spent a total of £810m on ‘Black Friday’, with ASDA alone making 130 sales per second, demonstrating the scale of such events.
Joe Frost, Sales and Marketing Director at ultrafast broadband provider Gigaclear, says: “Amazon Prime Day is a huge day for online shoppers and our ultrafast speeds enabled by our pure fibre network will put our customers in a much stronger position to grab the best deals than anywhere else in the country. With faster connections than inner cities, tranquil rural areas are likely to become prime online shopping locations for this sales event.
“We expect to see a large number of spikes in online activity during the 24 hour sale. Homes and businesses with pure fibre broadband will have a head start when it comes to snapping up a bargain, due to the speed and capacity in our network.”
“It’s great to be able to see the difference ultrafast speeds make, especially during events such as this,” continues Joe Frost. “It isn’t fair to be invited to Amazon’s birthday party if you can’t join in with any of the games!”
