€100bn: that’s the new magic number. Online commerce has gone from nowhere to the €100bn mark in 12 years. If you ever needed a measure of how much the online economy has leapt then look no further. In this month’s Digital Intelligence, we give you the download of Forrester’s data about online retail and why the UK is topping Europe as the country that shops ’till it drops online.
We also look back on the World Cup – where let’s face it England didn’t do quite so well! – but with footie addicts worldwide logging on it left our friends at Yahoo calling it the “first Internet World Cup”. All of which reminded me of a site called FootballWorldCup.com that I set up and ran at The Telegraph back in the nineties. Its entire traffic? Slightly less than one day on the Yahoo! Football pages.
We’ve come a long way.
