Most website traffic comes from click-throughs from organic search results traffic, ahead of paid social and search methods, according to new research.
The latest findings from the BrightEdge Data Cube show organic content marketing efforts are paying significant dividends for brands, as measured by both Web traffic and revenue.
The study indicates that organic search leads as the primary channel for website traffic, driving 51 percent of searchers to sites.
Organic search drove 51% of website traffic referrals worldwide during June and July 2014.
Meanwhile, display, email and referred search ranked second, with 34% of referrals, paid search third (10%), and social media last (5%).

The data showed in all sectors that the organic channel was the main driver of traffic, but that percentage varied greatly – with Business Services showing the most gain from the organic search channel.
Paid search also varied by industry, with retail showing the most traffic from the channel. In comparison, social traffic was trivial to other channels studied across sectors.
Organic traffic drove a good portion of revenue for many sectors, including retail, business services, technology, and hospitality. However, the media and entertainment sector benefitted most from paid search, the data showed.
