New figures from IAB Australia and PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) forecast that the Australian online ad market will grow by 17.6% during 2009 to reach over A$2bn (£909m). Online advertising is now the country’s second largest ad medium after television. Internet advertising grew 27% during 2008, rising A$364m to reach A$1.7bn. Figures for Q4 2008 grew to A$462m, up 22% year-on-year (A$83.25m) and 2.4% from the previous quarter (A$10.75m).
Search and directory advertising accounted for 48.5% of all Australian online adspend, followed by display advertising (on 28.1%) and classifieds (on 23.4%).
