Mobile apps can boost UK worker productivity by more than 34%, while 9 in 10 users say work apps changed their behaviour as a business professional, according to research from salesforce.com.
Key findings of the report are:
- 60% of British employees now use apps on mobile devices for work-related activity; nearly a quarter (21%) use dedicated department-specific business apps
- Among users of department-specific apps, 60% have seen an increase in their personal productivity as a direct result, averaging 34%
- Almost 9 in 10 app users say that apps for work have changed their behavior as a business professional
- 59% of respondents think that their organisation has been too slow at delivering apps for the workforce
In addition, 60% of British employees now use apps on mobile devices for work-related activity, and of those that use dedicated department-specific apps, more than 60% have seen an increase in their personal productivity as a direct result, with the average increase being 34%. Almost 9 in 10 app users say that apps for work have changed their behaviour as a business professional, but 59% of respondents to the survey launched today think that their organisation has been too slow at delivering apps for the workforce.

The report, launched at the Salesforce1 UK conference in London, shows that apps are now firmly entrenched in the way British people work, with 60% of employees in SMEs and large companies now using apps for work related activity. This is having a hugely beneficial effect on productivity, company culture, work relationships and even how employees are perceived:
- Among users of dedicated departmental apps, 60% have seen an increase in their personal productivity
- 75% of British employees see chat facilities as having a significant effect on working relationships, with 31% stating that
chat can break down company barriers and nearly a quarter (24%) saying it reduces hierarchy
- 50% of C-level app users think apps make them better at multi-tasking
- On a more light-hearted note, 71% think that using apps on mobile devices enhances the image of employee
One issue revealed by the survey regarding the deployment and use of apps in UK business is that 59% of respondents think that their organisation has been too slow at delivering apps for the workforce.
“The European Commission announced in March that the European app industry will be worth €63 billion by 2018, an opportunity for Britain to grab,” Milano said.
This report was commissioned by salesforce.com and details quantitative research with employees in large and small companies in Britain. A sample of 469 interviews was collected with employees and all respondents confirmed prior to interview the size of their organisation and their level of seniority.
