The ‘Login and Pay with Amazon’ tool lets shoppers pay for products on participating websites using their existing Amazon account credentials.
Merchants get more information on customers, while the customers can buy without entering their address and card information on multiple sites over and over again.
“Login and Pay with Amazon enables companies to make millions of our customers their customers by inviting online shoppers with Amazon credentials to access their account information safely and securely with a single login,” said Tom Taylor, Vice President, Amazon Payments.
The new service is a direct challenge to PayPal, which currently dominates the online payment business with a long-running service that lets consumers buy on websites using their existing PayPal credentials.
Gogo, which provides in-flight wifi, already uses Amazon’s basic payments service, but is planning to add the new service.
“We’re excited to see the results once we start offering our customers the bundled solution of Login and Pay with Amazon towards the end of this year,” said Ash ElDifrawi, Gogo’s chief commercial officer.
