Facebook and Pinterest are the leading social networks for sharing content, with Google+ lagging far behind, according to new research.

The research from publishing tool Shareaholic, tracked 8 of the most popular social media platforms to see how they were driving traffic to our network of publishers.
The findings indicate that referals from Pinterest grew 66.52% across the network of Shareaholic’s 200,000 partner publishers, overtaking Twitter this year in the process.
This makes the image-focussed social pinboard was now responsible for an average of 3.24% of referrals in the 13 months from the start of September 2012 to the end of September this year.
Facebook still lead the market for referalls, getting a 8.11% share of share of visits and eclipsing Twitter’s average of 1.17%.
Both Facebook and Twitter referrals also grew significantly at 58.81% and 54.12%, respectively.
The report also found that StumbleUpon and Reddit referrals are declining, at 27.47% and 35.16% respectively.
Meanwhile, YouTube and LinkedIn are gaining share, increasing 52.86% and 34.51% respectively.
Google+ struggled the most out of of the 8 social networks examined, growing just 0.04% over the year in terms of referrals, according to the report.
