Sony’s PS4 has gone on sale it the US, becoming the fastest selling console ever, breaking first day sales records ahead of rival Xbox One launch next week.

The PlayStation 4 is currently only available in US and Canada, but within 24 hours it had already sold 1 million units – and so now the total is presumably even greater than that.
The figure is a record for the PlayStation brand and for home consoles in general, just beating the total for the Japanese PlayStation 2 launch of 980,000 consoles sold.
By comparison, the Wii U has sold less than 1.5 million copies in just under a year in the US.
The Xbox One launches in both North America and the UK this Friday (but only parts of Europe) and whether it can equal or surpass Sony’s achievements will also be largely dependent on stock levels.
They are the only countries in which the Xbox 360 outsold the PlayStation 3 this generation, and if Sony can get a firm grip on those markets early on they will be doing very well.
‘PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal,’ said Sony Computer Entertainment boss Andrew House.
‘Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support.’
