Snapchat could soon let advertisers offer a ‘buy’ option to users directly from the chat app, rivaling the likes of Facebook and Twitter, following two trademarks being filed earlier this month.

The trademarks, which were uncovered by TechCrunch, suggest Snapchat wants to start accepting, processing and transferring payments between users.
One of the trademarks is for computer software for processing electronic payments, while the second would allow processing of electronic funds transfer including credit cards and mobile payments.
Snapchat has not disclosed how it plans to implement these trademarks.
The trademarks could let users shop from the brands that advertise with them, or allow sending payments to each other along with photos and videos. In-app purchases for filters or stickers are also likely.
Earlier this summer, Betfair launched a campaign which used Snapchat to offer exclusive odds: providing another in-app opportunity to monetise.
