European mobile broadband on course for 150m connections

New research from Analysys Mason predicts that European mobile broadband connections will total over 148m by 2014, at which point they will account for nearly half of all such connections in the region. According to the research, subscriber profiles will change as mobile users select pay-as-you-go packages in preference to monthly contracts. By 2014, prepay contracts will account for 59% of all mobile broadband connections, from just 8% in 2008.
Revenues from mobile broadband services will also see strong growth, rising from €6bn in 2008 to reach €23bn in 2014. Share of revenues will also grow during the period, with mobile broadband accounting for 5.7% of all European telecoms revenues in 2014 (from 1.7% in 2008).
